Garrison Upsets Graf
In the women's singles semifinals, Zina Garrison defeated defending champion and world No. 1 Steffi Graf 7-5, 6-3, becoming the first African-American woman to reach a Wimbledon singles final since Althea Gibson in 1958.

Navratilova Advances to Final
Martina Navratilova won her semifinal match to advance to the Wimbledon women's singles final, where she would seek her record-breaking ninth singles title, surpassing the record of eight she shared with Helen Wills Moody.

Edberg Defeats McEnroe
In the men's singles semifinals, third seed Stefan Edberg defeated John McEnroe in five sets to advance to the Wimbledon final. The 31-year-old McEnroe was making a notable run, reaching his first Wimbledon semifinal since 1985.

Becker Reaches Final
Defending champion Boris Becker defeated Ivan Lendl in the men's singles semifinals to advance to his fourth Wimbledon final. Becker had won the title in 1985, 1986, and 1989.

Navratilova Wins Record Ninth Title
Martina Navratilova defeated Zina Garrison 6-4, 6-1 in the women's singles final to win her ninth Wimbledon singles title, breaking the all-time record she had shared with Helen Wills Moody. This would be Navratilova's final Wimbledon singles title.

Edberg Wins First Wimbledon Title
Stefan Edberg defeated defending champion Boris Becker 6-2, 6-2, 3-6, 3-6, 6-4 in the men's singles final to win his first Wimbledon title. Edberg dominated the first two sets before Becker fought back to level the match, but Edberg prevailed in the fifth set.
