The 1971 Formula One season was the 25th season of FIA Formula One motor racing. The season is also remembered for Peter Gethin's victory at the Italian Grand Prix, the closest finish in Formula 1 history, and François Cevert's maiden win at the United States Grand Prix.

Jackie Stewart won his home Grand Prix at Silverstone, securing his second World Drivers' Championship with four races still remaining. He drove his Tyrrell-Ford to victory ahead of Ronnie Peterson and Emerson Fittipaldi.

French driver François Cevert, teammate to Jackie Stewart at Tyrrell, scored his first and only Formula 1 victory at the United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. Cevert became the first Frenchman to win a Grand Prix since 1958. Tragically, Cevert would be killed at the same circuit two years later.
