The 1955 Formula 1 season was the ninth season of FIA Formula One motor racing. It featured the 1955 World Championship of Drivers, which commenced on January 16, 1955, and ended on September 11 after seven races. Juan Manuel Fangio won his third World Championship title driving for Mercedes-Benz.

Argentine Grand Prix
The season opened in Buenos Aires with local hero Juan Manuel Fangio taking victory for Mercedes.

Monaco Grand Prix & Ascari's Harbor Crash
Maurice Trintignant won the race for Ferrari. During the race, Alberto Ascari famously crashed his Lancia into the harbor, escaping with only a broken nose.
The Circuit de Monaco is a race course on the streets of Monaco, used for a variety of motorsports over the years. Between 1955 and 1962, this iteration of the course was used, with the start/finish line on the harbour front. In 1963, the start/finish line was moved to the straight approaching Sainte Dévote. Death of Alberto Ascari
Just four days after his Monaco crash, double World Champion Alberto Ascari was killed while testing a Ferrari sports car at Monza.

Indianapolis 500
Bob Sweikert won the 1955 Indianapolis 500, which was part of the Formula One World Championship. Bill Vukovich, the two-time defending champion, was killed in a crash during the race.
